With reference to your request for a statement on the question of battery lids.

We have not definitely advocated no protection at all for the top of the battery as obviously the cleaner the top is kept the less likely is leakage to occur although this leakage in comparison with the battery's normal duties would be negligible.

We are of the opinion however that a sheet metal top would be cheaper and would keep the whole of the inside of the box clean as well.

Our impression is that the moulded lid{A. J. Lidsey} is more expensive but we will make definite enquiries when we visit the National Accumulator Co. next week so that the D.O. can arrive at a comparison.

The battery which came off 16.G.4. however after the last 10,000 mile test was covered in mud in spite of the fact that a moulded lid{A. J. Lidsey} was fitted.
