To Na.{Mr Nadin} from EFC. EFC4/AT27.3.17 X. 2981. - INDICATOR DIAGRAM APPARATUS. We attach herewith a copy of a memo we have received from Mr. Elliott together with LeC. sketch LeC.743 outlining a scheme of apparatus for the taking of indicator diagrams of aero engines. The principle of this scheme is that of a rotary valve allowing the transmission of the instantaneous pressure corresponding to successive similar points in the cycle, together with pressure gauges to record this pressure. You will recognize this as a mechanical analogue of the method of plotting alternating current and voltage waves by means of the Joubert revolving contact. We also attach a copy of some remarks we are sending Mr. Elliott concerning this scheme. We shall be glad if you can go ahead in getting the details for this apparatus. We have another purpose in mind for which the little epicyclic gear will be useful, and that is in connection with observing the motion of magneto contact breakers running at a high speed by means of a light spark produced by another magneto running at half speed but driven through this epicyclic gear so that the relative phases of the two magnetos may be carried through a complete cycle. If you have any correspondence with St.Margaret's in connection with this job we should be glad if you will (Contd) | ||
