TESTS FOR JELLYING, TORQUE REACTION, BOOMS AND THE EFFECT ON STEERING BY DIFFERENT LOADS ON THE FRONT TORQUE REACTION DAMPERS.

1st Test.

Conditions.

Torque reaction dampers made choc-o-bloc.

Torque reaction and its effect on front wings.

Same on at 9 MPH. Max. 10, finished at 11 MPH. Period was very rapid with little amplitude. Gear lever started at 10, at 12 very violent and finished at 15 MPH. A further crisp period from 16 to 18 MPH. The car felt very rigid and rattles were general. The reaction is more noticeable by the rapid movement of the wings and side lamps.

Booms.

In Front Seats. These were very pronounced. They started at 12 MPH. 25 peak lasted to 40 MPH. slight sign at 60 MPH. On retard started at 65, peak 60 down to 40. A definite period was felt on the clutch pedal at 61 MPH, and there was also a distinct rattle in the change speed lever.

In Rear Seats. A steady rumble from 12 to 40 MPH, a little more crisp from 55 to 60 MPH. On retard the same periods at the same value.

Steering.

Was better in regard to oscillation of wheel. The side lamps and wings were steadier approx. 40%. Head lamps were steadier 60% compared with 3rd test. The jellying of the front wings was very good. We should say 80%. The headlamps were 90%.
