EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/25.6.30.cont. REAR WHEEL CARRIER. This was the dual carrier. The serrated nose of the hub of the rearmost wheel had worked about on the disc which fitted into it and had burred up the serrations. This spigot should not be such a good fit so that the wheel is carried on the dummy hub only. In the case of the foremost wheel the same had occurred, but here the dummy hub is shorter. We suggest that Derby make tests on a carrier in which there is clearance on this diameter. CLEARANCE An alternative suggestion (by PN{Mr Northey}) is that the spigot on the triangulated stay might have serrations which would engage with those of the wheel nut so avoiding the burring up of the end of the serrations. The bearings of the triangular stay on the rear cross member seized up on more than one occasion although they were taken down and treated with graphite grease. No oil holes as we believe are now provided, had been drilled. We do not think that this is a point which we should like to have to lubricate frequently, and would like this bearing to be self-lubricating if possible. We would welcome remarks from Derby on this point. The stud on one side which attaches the tube to the bearing piece broke. We are inclined to think that the outer handle which tightens the whole issue up might be made longer so that there would be less chance of the wheels moving PETROL TANK. The petrol tank had been slightly dented on the under side. REAR SPRINGS. The inner forward nut of the bolt holding the spring to the axle had fouled the chassis frame and bent it locally.
