X5310. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Synchromesh. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}13/E6.5.32. X5310 X7480 In a telegram received from R.{Sir Henry Royce} he says: "Difficult to have both synchromesh and clutch brake must allow latter to operate only on lower gears". I do not know quite of what this is a propos as I have not heard any query about the clutch brake. I should be glad to know how this is schemed at present in connection with synchromesh on both the 20/25 and the 40/50 boxes, because I gather that you do not want the clutch brake when synchromesh is in use, but you do of course want it in other gears of the normal type.
