These are given in this manner as a preliminary, but a further report will follow in which these are graphically expressed, which report in addition will contain similar results taken on the same N.B. machine with another armature with much thinner armature plates. In the meanwhile the present report is sent so that the differences in the observed losses on the two machines may be appreciated. One point, however, should not be overlooked, namely, that in utilising the same field current for the two machines, for which the results are given, the standard one with the narrower air gap, other things being the same, will of course have a rather larger armature flux and therefore rather larger losses for that reason, and that some portion of the big differences between the figures may be accounted for in this manner, though it will be agreed to be very improbable that the whole of this difference will be accounted for in this way. Our observations of the actual performances and the cooler running of the N.B. machines are, we consider, very much confirmed by the present figures.
