To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}C/Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} Visit of Ds. and Grylls to USA. Referring to E.3/HP.28.11.35, tyre noise effects seem, as you say, to be imputed to transmission through the suspension and amplification by the bodywork and wings. I am not quite clear, however, why it is that the Cadillac, which we possess, is free of these tyre noises whereas, if I remember correctly, it has the wheels and tyres very much enclosed. When I was last at Derby and was driven to Nottingham on a P.III, Dodd told me that we should very quickly be making the experiment with the rubber inconnection with the shackles, and I should be glad to know what has happened in regard to this. If the experiment has been made and has not effected the improvement we need, then I thoroughly agree with you that we ought as quickly as possible to carry out an experiment with a P.II body mounted throughout on rubber with a semi-isolation attachment to dash, and I assume that this could be done on one of the cars now at Derby - preferably one of the recent ones on which tyre noises were very prominent. I have spoken to Mr.Ward on the telephone and he tells me that he could carry out this work in about two days provided he had a little notice to get rubber pieces ready. I expect you know that he cannot on the existing bodies introduce the silent-block mountings because of the position, i.e. height of our body brackets. Will you please, therefore, consult with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and arrange matters with Park Ward so that one of the cars may be converted as quickly as possible. Sg.{Arthur F.
