MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT DERBY THURSDAY, OCT6TH, 1932.

Present whole time Eg. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} He. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}
" part time Rg.{Mr Rowledge} RP. Lr.{Mr Ellor}

Item 1 on Agenda. What has happened to Standardisation sheet for cheaper bonnet fastener?

Samples of the present type of R.R. fastener and the "Remax" fastener were exhibited. While it was agreed that the R.R. was a very much higher grade job both in design and workmanship Eg. said we must remember the fact that the "Remax" does function well and had successfully passed 10,000 miles tests and that there is an enormous difference in cost. He suggested that it may be possible to arrive at something between the two and which would still be a good R.R. job.
It was arranged that By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} would consider the matter and report to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}
It was agreed that the "Remax", or some similar fastener be used on "Bensport".

Item 2 on Agenda. 19-G.IV. Are we still doing anything about R.R. carburetter for J.L.? Is it worth spending the time and money in view of our programme ?

He. said that this work is necessary but in connection with J.II.

Item 3 on Agenda. Present general position in regard to Adjustable Shock Dampers resulting from 19-G.IV. etc. and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}' visit to R.W.?

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that R.{Sir Henry Royce} is convinced of the need for controllable dampers.
He also reported that a car fitted with R's scheme of automatically controlled dampers will be ready for trial in about two weeks' time (October 20th).
As this scheme requires some slight modification to the gearbox Eg. suggested that it might be advisable to make the modification on the next batch of castings so that the improvement could be adopted without loss of time in the event of its becoming standardised.
By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will look into this and report to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}
Eg. asked Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to write to R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggesting that it is advisable to adopt some intermediate stage between the non-controlled dampers as at present, and the fully automatic control now being developed so that we shall have something to offer to the Public at once to meet the demand of the
