Dear Robotham, I must apologise for having been so long in referring to my visit to Derby on Friday, the 21st ult., when you were good enough to let me have a full review of your activities in regard to the synchro-mesh gearbox, and I would also like to thank you for the facilities you gave me for carrying out the necessary test. I can confirm that we are prepared to purchase the a four-speed unit from you and should be pleased if you would let us have an official invoice for this purpose, and on the terms as agreed between us. The unit No. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}14 has duly come to hand, and we are making arrangements to instal this in a suitable chassis for test immediately. Subsequent to this, and if considered suitable, we will arrange for a short period of service testing to be carried out, and finally will test the gearbox to destruction against one of our standard GB-9 gearboxes as used in passenger chassis. The information you were good enough to give me was certainly of very great value, and should assist us in coming to some conclusions in regard to the manufacture of synchro-mesh gearboxes. I would also thank you for the information you gave me with regard to stud fitting in aluminium alloy; we are following this up immediately by carrying out some tests in this direction. | ||
