TEL. 5480 ROYAL. (6 LINES). RENSHAW ST, LIVERPOOL,1. [Handwritten] Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Could you get someone to report on this HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 8th October, 1934. Dear Eastwood, Further to the short conversation I had with you on the Mersey Railway on Saturday morning. I enclose the brief specification and print referred to and would be most interested to have Hives' criticism. The device seems to work perfectly, gives no trouble and does, I feel sure, help considerably in preventing wear in the bores. It has been given tests approaching a hundred thousand miles and on a Wolseley Hornet (non-steel sleeve model) after nearly eighty thousand miles the wear on four cylinders was only one and a half thousandths and two thousandths on the other two cylinders. I have submitted the drawing, etc. to Dunn of The Alvis Car & Engineering Co.Ltd., Hanks of Messrs. Morris Motors Limited and Roesch of Talbot's. The latter was so taken with the idea that he is making a prolonged test of it. I realise the "gadget" itself is of no use to Rolls-Royce as they have their own method, but would really appreciate Hives' idea of the benefits or other-wise of the device. Kind regards, Yours faithfully, [Signature] C.H.Kircle E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} Eastwood, Esq., "Breydon", Beryl Road, Upton, WIRRAL. | ||
