Our tests with various oils showed us that oil consumption could not be reliably estimated from the viscosity figures as seen from the results tabulated below, these tests were done three times in order to make certain of the results after noting the consumption obtained with Castrol 'Z' and 'CR{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}', these oils having the same viscosity at 100°C.

Oil Viscosity at 100°C Redwood No.1 scale (seconds) Oil Consumption.
Motorine 'C' 70.0 1.5 pts/hr.
Castrol 'XL' 68.0 1.5 pts/hr.
Castrol 'Z' 45.7 1.75 pts/hr.
Castrol 'CR{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}' 45.7 2.75 pts/hr.
Mobiloil 'Arctic' 45.7 1.5 pts/hr.

Since these tests were carried out the Castrol 'CR{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}' oil has been improved but at the moment we have no actual figures for comparison.
