RECENT MODIFICATIONS TO STANDARD
PHANTOM 6-VOLT UNIT BATTERIES.

In the original form of 6-volt unit batteries in three compartment moulded ebonite containers both the Exide and the P & R makes were similar in internal cell construction to previous and superseded 12-volt batteries, with one exception, namely that in the P & R case an improved form of gland between each lug and the cover was adopted this consisting of both a rubber and a grease gland fordouble protection against the egress of acid to the top of the cell cover.

Reduced width of plates.

This was a small modification by which the width of the plates of the Exide cells was reduced to allow of more cross expansion and so prevent the tendency to bulge the sides of the compartment which we have noted in previous moulded cell containers. On the P & R cells this item did not need attention, as sufficient allowance had already been made.

Ebonite separators in P & R cells.

An alteration to this was arranged in which the separators were made of fuller size laterally and at least
