BYL/N.17.2.30.

Aero Engine Standardisation.

We agree in principle with Hsl/M.10.2.30, and have made a number of attempts to get this principle worked to, but without success.

We do not issue sheets and in their absence have carried on as best we could rather than hold up the job.

In future we propose to hold up the job until the right procedure is forthcoming.

We must point out that until Standardisation Sheets are available our efforts of the 10th.inst. to clear up the 'F' and 'H' engines are futile because we have no authority for the following items:-

(1) New Crankcase with Inclined Web between Main Bearing Cap Housing and outer wall.
(2) Oil Thermometer bottle added.
(3) A.G.S. oil connections. to final ends of the oil pipes.
(4) Crankshaft driving flange extended to catch oil from thrower formed on Reduction Gear Pinion.
(5) Parallel bolts with castellated Nuts fitted in Forked Con.Rod.
(6) Exhaust Valves from H.R.Crown Steel with Wedges and Top Washers to suit.
(7) Cyl.Blocks altered to suit new crankshaft drive and new Mixture Distributor, --- Exhaust Valve Guide in Phosphor Bronze.
(8) New Wheelcase Casting to suit Camshaft Drive - Gun Gear Drive shaft shortened to prevent Gun Gear Cams being fitted in wheelcase.
(9) Diameter of Starting Handle Shaft increased to .800
(10) Reduction Gear Ratio .475 to 1
