We have now arranged our apparatus so that we can measure only the wobbles which are felt on the steering wheel. We find that high speed wobbles have an amplitude of 4° and over. Attached to R's copy of this memo. is a record shewing all the phases of a high speed wobble on a Phantom car with tyre pressures of 40 lbs/sq.in., and wheels 1 lb. out of balance. The wobble when accelerating, as will be observed from the record, occurs in spasmodic bursts; on the overrun it continues for a considerably longer period. On this record it was arranged that there was only one electrical contact on the wheel instead of two. This enables the period of the wobble relative to the period of the wheel to be more easily observed. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
