The R.P. ADJUSTABLE THERMOSTAT This system of automatic heat control ensures that your engine runs at its most efficient temperature. The ‘R.P.’ is fitted in the upper water hose and controls the flow of water according to the heat around the cylinder block—the exact running temperature desired is set by means of the control knob on the Thermostat. This need only be adjusted twice a year at the beginning of Summer and Winter. The ‘R.P.’ system ensures a lightning warm up from cold and instant acceleration. Avoids excessive petrol consumption during cold weather, and eliminates oil dilution. Maintains constant engine temperature on the road within a few degrees. Traps the hot water round the cylinders when the engine stops, thus ensuring an easy restart. Fitted in half an hour. Please state make, h.p. and year of car, inside diameter of water hose, and whether pump or thermo-syphon circulation is used. Type G.508 — Pump Circulation Type. Price 33/6 Type G.509 —Thermo-Syphon Type. Price 28/6 INSTRUCTION SHEET No. 114. SMITH'S DASHBOARD READING ENGINE TEMPERATURE THERMOMETERS THE CAR-THERMO SAFETY GAUGE (Combined Engine Temperature Thermometer and Oil Gauge) THE “CAR-THERMO” or Engine Temperature Thermometer Made in two sizes for flush fitting: 2 1/16" overall diameter for 2 1/8" hole; 2 1/2" overall diameter for 2 13/16" hole. Black or Chromium case and black or silver dial. Type A.453 Price 37/6 5/- allowed on return of oil gauge if desired. Type A.437 Price 25/- THE RADIATOR THERMOMETER A Radiator Thermometer is a really reliable acquisition to the motor car, especially where the “R.P.” Thermostat is not fitted. It shows the temperature of the water circulation, and, in doing so, faithfully checks the condition of the engine; also, by watching the pointer, one is enabled to prevent over-heating under conditions where the only other visible sign would be the danger point of boiling. The condition of the engine would, of course, be checked by running the car at certain intervals under uniform load, temperature, and road conditions, and increase of the temperature recorded would show that some fault, causing over-heating, had developed in the engine. The dial of the instrument is calibrated in degrees centigrade up to 100. Sole Manufacturers: S. SMITH & SONS (Motor Accessories) LTD. CRICKLEWOOD, LONDON, N.W.2.
