To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from EY. X.3199. 13th October 1917. EY1/G13.10.17. X.3173. X.3191. X.3199. X.2038 RE CONTROLS FOR MAGNETO REMY-IGNITION+ We have been looking into the question of controls as made out to your LeC.862. We are afraid these will need to be slightly modified, as so far as we can see these controls are so arranged that a movement of 30° on the magneto contact breaker causes approximately a movement of the same amount on the camshaft contact breaker as the magneto and Remy controls are interconnected. We take it the rate of retard and advance requires to be the same for both, and unless we hear something definite from you, we propose making the travel of the magneto contact breaker 10° when the magneto travels 30°, in view of the fact that the speed of the magneto is three times that of the camshaft. We shall be glad to hear definitely whether this alteration should be made or whether it is desired that the scheme as shewn on LeC.862 should be strictly adhered to. EY/RB.{R.
