Your Ref Our Ref CWG/DC [STAMP: RECEIVED 15 JUN 1938] Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, MR. E.R. HALL'S ROLLS ROYCE ENGINE. We enclose herewith blueprint Y.65 showing our proposal for coupling up Mr. Hall's 30 H.P. Rolls Royce engine which we have in the Works here to one of our standard F type reverse gears. Mr. Hall sent us your recent letter in which you suggested drilling out the 6 holes in the first motion shaft gear wheel, but we should have to make a special adapter in addition, to match up our standard coupling, and we therefore propose to machine all the teeth off, cut a keyway, and shrink a coupling ring on as shown in our drawing. Your first motion shaft and the half coupling will then be set up and faced true, and we propose in addition to fit a light cast cover over the boss of the coupling provide an oil seal and thus enable the ball bearing to be efficiently lubricated. We are proposing to use oil in this bearing not grease, and we should be glad if you would consider our proposal and let us have your approval or criticism. We are sending a copy of this drawing with a brief covering letter to Mr. Hall tonight informing him | ||
