It will be seen from the answers that up to the present at any rate, there has been an almost negligible amount of trouble in this direction though E.W.6. magnetos have now been delivered on cars for nearly two years.

We have put the matter to Messrs. North over and over again, but owing to their contention of the trouble being the effect of hydro carbon vapours, and the fact that this seems to be supported to some extent by the fact that the troubles were only reported from experimental cars, it has naturally taken a good deal of persuasion to convince them and to get them to make any variation. Messrs. North are now apparently convinced that our own contention is correct.

Quite recently we pressed them again on this point, and again on the desirability of experimenting with tungsten points which they have refused to do until the last few weeks (being afraid of the effect of this on low speed sparking). They now however, state that from their later results of their experiments they are pleased to find that the effect is nothing like as serious as they anticipated from previous evidence. Now they have actually produced for us, two contact breakers, one with larger platinum points and one with tungsten points.

We paid a personal visit to Messrs. North on Friday last largely on this question, and we have brought back two magnetos fitted with the aforesaid contact breakers.

It will be seen from the above that the matter has all along been consistently and continually taken up seriously with the makers.
