Dear Pomeroy,

Replying to your letter of 20th August and telegram, the following is the accurate aluminium content of the sections you mention in your letter:-

Pistons and Gudgeon Pins. 14 lbs. 4 ozs.
Lower Half, etc.. 25
Wheelcase. 6
Water Pump. 6
Cylinder Heads & Rocker Covers. 70
Cylinders and Top Half Crankcase. 140
Carburetters and Air Silencer. 7

The regard to manifolds, the induction system illustrated in Negative No.5529 and numbered 1, 2, 3, should be substituted for those numberes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 in the negative numbered 5509. A saving on the total unit weight of 15 lbs. 12 ozs., reducing the section weight to 49 lbs 9 1/2 ozs. and the aluminium weight of this section to approximately 16 1/2 lbs.

There is no harm in mentioning that aluminium brake drums were tried out experimentally on the Phantom III, but you should say at the same time that these were never standardised.

Yours sincerely,
