X 219. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GRY.{Shadwell Grylls} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.1/HP.19.4.32. Re Bensport Crankshaft With reference to the rough draft of your report on the above; we are glad to see the major critical has gone up from 5750 to 6400. With regard to the supercharger, we do not propose to fix this to the nose but to drive it with a very flexible shaft and use either damping friction between the inertia of the supercharger, and the front end of the crank, or mount a separate slipper flywheel on the front end of crank. We do not wish you to take any notice of the size of the shaft we have shown for driving the supercharger, namely .65 diameter, we propose to make this as flexible as we possibly can, and we have not yet been into the question of the torque this shaft has to carry.
