Adjustments made to a rear bearing to reduce play and the results of subsequent vehicle testing.

Referring again to the rear bearing, it will be observed that by reducing by .003" the two joint faces of the cap, and "stepping" the liners by .005" we in all removed .008" play.

After carrying out the above work, we tested the bearings under oil pressure, and the oil flow from each bearing was even and normal.

During the testing of the car, we observed that the period at 900 r.p.m. when pulling was improved by 50%, and that the period which existed at 2,800 r.p.m. on the over-run had almost disappeared, or was about normal for a 4 1/4 litre Bentley.
