Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/WH.2.8.38.

The following is a summary of some of the points raised in our conversation of yesterday's date.

(1) Engine for the Paulin Bentley.

You will arrange to get a set of pistons having 8 : 1 compression ratio with the old cam grinding. Will you also arrange to have an air intake silencer which can be fitted to the large carburetters.

(2) We want to investigate the Oldsmobile crankcase breather. It is alleged to prevent sludge in the oil due to water condensation, and this in turn cuts down corrosion and so cylinder bore wear.

We should endeavour to measure the crankcase circulation due to ventilation on the Oldsmobile under light throttle and idling conditions.

(3) We should get particulars of the forward facing air intake which Lr.{Mr Ellor} recommends for speeds of 100 m.p.h. and 150 brake horse power.

We should also like to know what he anticipates we shall gain from this intake.

(4) We should get the double down take manifold that has been schemed for B.II made so that we can try it with a duplex system on the Paulin car.
