THE DAIMLER CO. LTD. COVENTRY. TELEPHONE: 4161 (NINE LINES) TELEGRAMS: DAIMLER-PHONE, COVENTRY. [STAMP: FOR PROMPT ATTENTION KINDLY ADDRESS YOUR REPLY TO FOUNDRY DEPARTMENT] Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. PLEASE REPLY TO FOUNDRY DEPARTMENT. OUR REF AH/HMT. YOUR REF Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les/6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 28th March 1938. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 25th inst., and give herewith estimated cost of Patterns for producing Main Lever Housings Castings, G.W.1746/7:- Pattern equipment for Main Lever Housing, Drawing No. G.W. 1746/7 ... £21.0.0. nett. Each Hand. With reference to the minimum section; we could not undertake to make these castings in Steel to a thickness of .187" especially as you propose to allow only .013" as a limit above this thickness before rejecting the castings. (This limit is less than 1/64 of an inch). We considered the minimum thickness very carefully before quoting, and could not agree to anything less than .2 of an inch as the minimum. This is very thin for Steel castings, and we could only agree to work as near to this as possible. We suggest that a proof casting would prove what is practically possible. Yours Faithfully, FOR THE DAIMLER COMPANY LIMITED, A.{Mr Adams} Harley. Foundry Manager.
