Re: Rear Bumpers - Wraith.

As already promised to you, we have made a revised bumper support for the rear of the Wraith to deal with bodies having 46" overhang, and attached to the existing forging of the chassis rear crossmember.

We send you herewith blueprint F.CD.672, FW.1708 and FW.1709 shewing the arrangement and details of the scheme.

Sheet metal bumper extension is shown for a maximum overhang of 46" and may be cut shorter by the coachbuilder.

The holes for attaching the end bracket should be left entirely by the Works, and provided by the coachbuilder.

We take it that it is intended to sell this bumper, extension arm and bracket, as an extra.

We have calculated that the arm and bracket are strong enough to carry the bumper and to deal with all likely loads, but we are a little worried as to whether the mass of the bumper carried on such a long an extension arm will cause the former to dither, in which case it will be necessary to provide a rubber support to the body. This latter we do not wish to do unless it is necessary, and we suggest that it would be of great help to us if the Exp. Dept. could fit up a Wraith car with a bumper having this overhang, and test it as soon as possible for this feature.

We understand that you may desire us to purchase for you a quantity of rear bumpers for the standardised bodies which you have in hand, and we would be glad if you would send us a drawing of the bumper shewing the correct length and curvature, which you require to suit the bodies in question, at the same time telling us what quantities we should ask quotations for.
