34-EX.

This car is coming into the Department first thing on Monday morning to be prepared for a trip overland to Nairobi. This is in the nature of a Press tour, and will mean running through the Desert under abnormal conditions:-

The following specification indicates the modifications which are required for this car:-

(1) Additional Side Spare Wheel Carrier. Both wheels will have to be modified to make them suitable for a 7½" tyre.
(2) Louvered sides fitted to the bonnet.
(3) Additional Petrol Pump. In addition to the petrol pump on the dashboard, a petrol pump is to be fitted on the frame with changeover tap and switch. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} will instruct how they should be fitted up.
(4) Clutch. Centre plate to be changed to one of VM.20 material. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth. will supply.
(5) Additional Petrol Tank. Mr. Symons wishes to carry an additional 20 gallons of petrol. His original suggestion was to fit a tank up in the boot, but now that 34-EX has been allotted for this trip no boot is available. We shall have to find some place on the chassis where we can put an additional supply of petrol.
(6) Road Springs. We want to fit the heaviest rear springs that we can get on this car.
(7) Cooling. Mr. Symons has asked us to fit some condensers to cover up the steam pipes on the radiator as he is fairly satisfied that the car will boil and he does not want to carry a lot of water.
