ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hor. c. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Ry. c. A.I.D. AUSTENITIC STEEL LINERS. Herewith reports from Sid. and Ryc. on the production and tests of Austenitic liners on the single cylinder Unit. I think, as a result of all our tests, we can say that the Austenitic Nitrided material is quite unsatisfactory for our present type of cylinder construction, because of the increased expansion of the liner endways which will either affect our top joint, or cause the liner to distort. These liners should behave better in the two piece cylinder design. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X3866. | ||
