Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [crossed out] BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [crossed out] Wop X4612 [handwritten] [Stamp: RECEIVED 24 JAN 1933] re. 25-HP.CHASSIS. SERIES "X" CAST IRON BRAKE DRUMS - HAND BRAKE SQUEAL. As demonstrated to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}today on GEX-4, he agreed that when the car was finally pulled up by the hand brake, the squeal was certainly bad. This trouble has come about with the advent of the cast iron brake drums, commencing on "X" Series. The point Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} raised in defence of this trouble was that the hand brake was now more effective also that the hand brake is for parking only, i.e. should only be applied when the car has been brought to a standstill by the foot brake. It was not considered worth while applying the "toggle shoe" scheme. This explanation I am afraid will not be satisfactory to customers. I feel sure the matter should again be considered before finally delivering cars with this fault to customers. Will you please arrange, therefore, to consider whether anything can be done to mitigate this trouble, and which can be applied to these cars prior to delivery from the Coachbuilders, as we are now delivering the chassis to Coachbuilders. I consider this point sufficiently important to be put on the Agenda for your next meeting. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} [Signature] | ||
