Dear Sir,

Rolls Royce - AC.9 Bearing metal.

I thank you for your letter of the 6th April, and am enclosing a booklet which we have issued in connection with the above material. We will reply shortly to your more specific questions.

The bearing material, as possibly you may know, was produced by Mr. Hall, Chief Metallurgist at Rolls-Royce, to overcome the difficulties on the Bentley car, which running at high speeds and doing very long journeys on the new Continental roads, had a tendency to bearing trouble. This material seems to have eliminated the trouble entirely, and we have taken up the manufacturing rights for this country.

I am in touch with Messrs. Rolls-Royce on the subject of the manufacturing rights for America and have already discussed it with me or two people, such as Thompson Products, Perfect Circle Ring Co, and others, who may be interested in exploiting the bearing commercially in the same way as we are doing here.

You may be interested to learn that as a result of tests we have orders for 50,000 pairs for Diesel Engine requirements for the coming season and it undoubtedly does carry a very high load in a very satisfactory way. Having made many hundreds of experimental sets for various manufacturers, we are convinced that it has an excellent future.

I shall be coming over to America on the "Queen Mary" sailing 17th May, to see one or two friends in the States and no doubt I shall at that time be in a position to give you more information and I hope to be able to let you know who has decided to take up the manufacturing rights in America.

Yours faithfully,
Managing Director
