Dear Sirs,

STEERING CAM ROLLER ASSEMBLY

With reference to your valued communication of the 4th instant, together with your previous letter of the 14th ultimo, regarding the above, we note the details given on your latest drawings ref. F.61281/2/3/4/5/6, these being quite in order, and we note that you will be forwarding the parts in due course, for the grinding etc. as arranged.

With regard to the question of the pre-loading on the balls, we are of the opinion that to make this to correspond to a torque of 2 to 3 lbs/ins. on the roller would constitute too great an interference and would possibly encourage indentation during the static loading, and we prefer to govern the pre-loading in terms of actual interference rather than in terms of torque.

We are of the opinion therefore, that in adjusting the distance piece, an interference across the two balls of .002" nominal should be obtained, and we do not consider it advisable to exceed this very greatly owing to the possibility of static indentation mentioned above.
