Dear Sir,

Programme of Research 1935-36.
------------------------

I have been instructed by the Executive Sub-Committee to invite Affiliated Manufacturers and Operators to suggest new subjects upon which research could usefully be carried out.

The main energies of the Research Department are, at present, concentrated on - (1) Cylinder Wear; (2) Valve Seat Wear; (3) The Wear and Cracking of Big-End Bearings; (4) Lubricating Oil Consumption; (5) Frictional Properties of Brake Lining and Brake Drum Materials. Some of these researches may be concluded within the next few months, though suggestions relating to the extensions are invited. It will be realised, however, that it is desirable, in framing a programme of research, to look beyond the immediate future.

I should, therefore, be glad if you would give this matter your consideration and suggest any subject which is of sufficient general interest and fundamental importance to warrant the attention of the Research Department.

Yours faithfully,

(Sgd) C.S. Williams.

Director of Research and Standardisation.
