In confirmation of our experience, an article on valves by Colwell in the July issue of the S.A.E. Journal recommends the use of electrically upset intake valves, but exhaust valves produced by the extruded method.

Regarding the latter, we have asked Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} to obtain extruded exhaust valves from Doncaster's for trial on the high power units in Silichrom X.10, also mentioned in the above article as more suitable than the normal Silichrom No.1 for exhaust valves. We certainly think that the cheapened issue of the Ripple unit as per our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}26.7.39 should start with the electrically upset Motor Component inlet valves, also on the B.80 and B.60 high power units when introduced in production.
