ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/MJ.5.5.31. X.2677. PETROL PUMP. We are sending you herewith a description of another petrol pump which has the fabric like the A.C. the operation of which is very similar, I believe, to the one I saw being worked on at W.W. We believe that if we make a fabric type pump it would be necessary to get the material for the fabric diaphragm from the A.C. people. We know that the A.C., which is a part of the General Motors, have done a tremendous amount of work on this material; it was not arrived at by accident. With the original pumps they had all sorts of troubles to get the material to stand up. They now have produced millions of these pumps and have arrived at a stage of reliability which we could not hope to achieve until we had tested our pump for thousands of hours under all kinds of extreme conditions. For instance, one of the worst troubles they had originally with the A.C. pump was the fabric becoming frozen stiff. The A.C. people manufacture their pumps in Birmingham and are now supplying all the big production in England except Morris. The other advantage with the A.C. pump is that you can obtain spares and replacements in any part of the world. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Att: R.A.E. Report No.E.3227. (To R's. copy only). | ||
