| ( 5 ) to the crankcase, so that there was not sufficient pressure to feed either the rocker shafts or the plungers. The latter fault only occurred once, but the second gave endless trouble and with the excessive gap caused by the failure of the plunger, two rockers were broken. We were at a loss for some time to account for the choking up of the metering screws, but eventually careful examination proved that the fine hairs and fluff were coming off the Teclamit Filter fitted for the supply of oil to the rocker shaft. Two days running would find 10 out of 12 metering screws choked. At a mileage of 6,800, we fitted plungers having a clearance of .002 to the B block. We found no perceptable difference in the action of A or B side plungers. A fourth feature which caused a noisy tappet was the circlip of the valve inside the plunger having come out of the recess of the valve stem, putting out of action the return spring, and the closing of the valve. The E 86880 springs fitted under the plungers were satisfactory in lessing the valve noise at high speed. They are necessary with the 8 to 1 ratio rockers. CYLINDERS LOP 85114 LEC 4218 E 86671 CYLINDER LINERS .500 LONGER SKIRTS. The Cylinders have given no trouble. No water leaks have been observed from the Joints. The condition of the bores were good. DYNAMO & WATER PUMP DRIVE. DYNAMO DRIVE SPINDLE MODIFIED TO HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1843 I.E. OIL GROOVED. The flexible drive with rubber bushings was in a good condition at the finish of the mileage. CAMSHAFT & BEARINGS LOP E 85281 EX 18044 CAMSHAFT MODIFIED TO HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1768 TO GIVE 6° MORE ADVANCED TIMING. STAND PIPE TO GIVE HIGH LEVEL OF OIL EX 18898. There has been no indication of the wear in the bearings of the camshaft. We have not dismantled the case and the effect of increased oil level will have to be noted when the engine is dismantled. | ||
