X3458 EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY7-P25.8.22. 40/50 CHASSIS. BRAKE DRUMS. /3458 With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn7/H3822, a month ago I altogether modified the heat treatment for the above parts by instructing the Works to fully temper out the brake drums instead of giving them the necessary heattreatment which would have produced the Brinell called for on our drawing. The Brinell figure will now be [REDACTED] from 170 to 197, whilst in addition the material will be, since I am cooling out in the furnace, considerably softer than it would be possible to get it by a pure tempering operation. The foregoing represents the very best that I am able to do with the brake drum as such. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [STAMP: RECEIVED 25 AUG 1922 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}] [WATERMARK: DICKINSON BOND] | ||
