2.PER.II. - 10,000 MILES TRIAL.
LeC.3184. PETROL PUMP.

Before stripping for examination, delivery and maximum pressure tests were taken - see graph attached.

All screws, nuts, etc., were found to be secure, and it was also observed that the plunger and guide bush were well lubricated. Also the fabric retaining flanges were not distorted.

VALVES ETC.

Both inlet and outlet valve discs (Bakelite) were O.K. also the valve seats. Both valve springs shewed signs of rubbing on the outside diameter - only very slightly - and although the free length of the outlet spring was correct (.400") the inlet spring free length measured only .350".

ROCKING LEVERS.

The pad of the rocking lever (in contact with the push rod) was only very slightly marked. The inner spindle and its bearings were in good condition, and the bore of the bush in the levers was also O.K. The section of the latter bush upon which the push rod lever worked showed slight signs of wear, but the reduction in diameter measured only .0005". The bore of this lever was slightly scored, and measured +.002" above the original size of the bush. The connecting rod pin was O.K., also the holes in the connecting rod eye, and in the forked end of the rocking lever. The rocking lever return spring was correct for free length.

Plunger & Bush. - The plunger was highly polished at the bottom, but was correct on diameter, no other signs of wear were evident. The bore of the bush was excellent.

Fabrics - 4 Layers of A.C.

The dope with which these fabrics are treated had been worn off the upper surface of the top layer, but the underside was not affected. The other three fabrics were not affected in this respect.

The material surrounding the bolt holes was quite sound. The "free" surface - i.e. the surface not constrained by either the diaphragm washers or the casing - of the two upper fabrics was slightly convex, whilst the two lower fabrics were bulged in the opposite direction -
