C. to RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Mr. Goodall. C. to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Dn. Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}16/JH. 8th June, 1937. Messrs. The Hoffman Manufacturing Co.Ltd., Chelmsford, Essex. For the attention of C.H.Smith Esq., Dear Sirs, Our Works despatched to you yesterday the inner races to our F.61468/9 for use with the steering roller assemblies F.61471 which you are making for us. It was intended that these should be supplied to you in the black hardened condition and that you should do all the grinding to F.61469. Unfortunately our works have, in error, commenced the grinding operations to the extent of surface grinding both sides of all races and finish grinding the bores of 108 of them to F.61469. The ball bearing tracks are still black and there is sufficient metal in to allow them to clean up. In order to use these races it would probably be necessary to make the projection of the inners from the roller less than the 0.0605 ± 0.001 shown on our F.61471 and your 41-473 V section 182, particularly as you may wish to remove more material from the end faces by a lapping operation. Should it be necessary we will accept a projection of 0.045 and corresponding assembled width of 1.202. We should be glad if you could use these inner races as the prearranged delivery dates for the completed assemblies are already exceeded owing to our delay in sending you the inners. Will you please let us know whether you can do so. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
