4462 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/KW. 19th April, 1934. The Earl of Rothes, The India Tyre & Rubber Co.Ltd., Mileage Dept. (Area "B"), 80, Clapham Road, LONDON, S.W.9. Dear Rothes, Thank you for your letter of April 18th. I was anxious that you should not say too much about the American production of all steel bodies in quantities because as I pointed out, I do not know anything about this other than that Manning of the Briggs Body Corporation said he could produce Bentley bodies in batches of 25 for £400 each. What I want to do is to get English Coachbuilders to look at the Cadillac body when it arrives and tell me how they produce this for the price, considering that they only do 400 a year. It is almost certain that composite dies are utilised which enable two or three types of body to be produced from one set of original equipment, but that is what we want to find out. I again emphasize that I know nothing about coachbuilding and should hate to be quoted to anybody who does. I will try and talk to Mr. Ward on Monday. Your remarks about the Daimler straight eight are interesting. Yours sincerely, | ||
