1260 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}22.1.40. EXPERIMENTAL CHASSIS WORK. At a meeting held yesterday it was decided to relieve R.Hollingworth of all aero engine responsibility and he will solely concentrate on chassis work. F.Norman and T.Fisher are also being relieved of aero duties and in future F.Norman will be responsible for the production of chassis engine units, and T.Fisher will be responsible for the remainder of the chassis. This, including Hollingworth, will make the chassis personnel up to twelve for the time being. Will you make certain that all instructions relating to chassis work pass through HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} in accordance with pre-war practice, otherwise, there will be no co-ordination and will ultimately lead to chaos. Parts in operation will be controlled by the same progress personnel as aero, viz. where practicable chassis parts will be allocated to progressmen responsible for their counterpart on aero engines. With our present organisation we can tackle chassis work, but in order to make this successful and smooth running, we should like you to make sure that all instructions are dealt with on similar lines to the aero engine, viz. if instructions are addressed to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} we take the responsibility for seeing they are carried out. Instructions to the Drawing Office shouldbe addressed to the individual concerned and a copy to HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}, so that we know the responsibilities of the Drawing Office. Similarly alterations to drawings should pass through the proper routine. We should have copies of all instructions to the Order Office, so that our sub-contract representatives, W.Butterworth and L.King, can follow them up. All manufacturing complaints should pass through HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/Cy. continued. | ||
