Although the pistons we have recently obtained by the above method do not achieve the ideal bedding, they are certainly much better than what we have been getting, and certainly appear to be much more consistent in their results and the bedding appears to stay 'put' by what would appear to be piston distortion during test, and I shall be glad if you can consider instructing for this method of procedure to be standardised. I am sure in doing this, we shall reduce a considerable amount of expense, not only in our method of production and passing through its routine of test, but also in avoiding expense in dealing with failures in service and Customers complaints, which Springfield claim to have achieved with the one inch longer piston. I do consider not such is due to the different piston but method of production.
