X4196 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn5/Hl.2.28. [Illegible Stamp] Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re. SPARKING PLUGS FOR F.11. ENGINES. The question of Sparking Plugs for the above engines is still not definitely clear. Champion R.11 are the standard type, but trouble has been experienced in service. It was agreed by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that R.12 plugs should be fitted on all F.11 engines and that it was necessary these should be of the short type. It was arranged that these should be procured for all F.11 engines as soon as the Air Ministry permission could be obtained, and in the meantime a gross should be ordered. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} agreed that in view of the R.12 plugs, short type, not being procurable R.1. type should be obtained temporarily. A gross of R.1. type plugs are in the Stores, which should presumably be used for the F.11 engines until such time as ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} can obtain the R.12 short type, and until the Air Ministry permission has been obtained for these to be fitted to the above engines. We are despatching F.11.No.31 engine to Martlesham with R.1. type plugs, as instructed by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} today. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn. | ||
