LOVEJOY HYDRAULIC SHOCK ABSORBERS. HOW TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT ARM POSITION ON HORIZONTAL BODIES. (For correct arm position on vertical bodies see separate sheet). For Rear Absorbers, -No.8, 8A and 8B, regular long arms For Front Absorbers, -No.8S, 8AS, 8CS and 8MS, regular short arms. Ruler or Straight Edge 1-5/8" 1-1/16" Straps should be accurately fitted to absorbers to give the correct arm position. Lengths of straps, as shipped from our factory, are supposed to be right for the installation fittings and car that they are marked for. Before discarding a strap as too short, be sure that it is well stretched and that the locking wedge is driven tight in strap bracket. In some cases, a strap may appear to be too short, before stretching, but still come up to the proper length when well stretched. The correct position for a long or short arm is found by measuring from a straight edge or ruler held against both lugs, as shown above, to the tip end of arm in each case. This distance on a horizontal absorber with a short arm should be 1-5/8" and on one with a long arm, 1-1/16". If, after thoroughly stretching the strap into place, the arm is found to be 3/8" higher or lower, than these measurements, it will make no material difference.
