Grylls, Esq. Dear Sirs, 4/MDJT.30. BEARINGS. With reference to your recent visit to these Works, we have pleasure in forwarding under separate cover the three test bearings which were discussed, the details being clearly shewn on the boxes. One of these is the bearing which was tested for 105 hours with Wakefield's "Hi-Press" Gear Oil, and which has run satisfactorily, and we are now running an extended test with this same lubricant, it being our intention to run the bearing for a maximum period to at least equal the time which has been run on the Whitmore oil. The other two bearings are those which were run for 100 hours at 4500 r.p.m., one being the bearing which was incorrectly mounted on our test rig, and this is forwarded in order to illustrate the effect of out of square mounting, while the other has been run for the full 100 hours, it being noted that the bearing is in perfect condition. With regard to a further test with a new design cage, and the bearing definitely mounted out of square, this will be put on as soon as possible, but with your | ||
