Rolls Royce, Ltd., Derby Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Ghylls We beg to confirm telephone conversation today regarding the experimental Sidemembers in .08" thick material, and the writer very much regrets that the letter he referred to on telephone had not been sent, this being chiefly due to the absence of various members of our staff on holidays. Up to the present we have not received the special Plates which were ordered the day following your visit. The Steel Works are taking an abnormally long time to deliver this very thin material, but we have wired them again asking for a definite promise. You will realise that to press these Members through the existing dies will tend to narrow all outside dimensions due to the difference in the thickness of material; furthermore, the flanges will not be truly square, as in the case of the standard .104" material, and in view of this we would ask you to bear in mind that it will not be possible for us to produce these Experimental Members with the same degree of accuracy as we have endeavoured to give you on the thicker type, without very extensive and costly alterations to tools. You may rest assured, however, that we will do our utmost to work as near to the limits as possible, and if we can obtain the necessary plates during next week, we will arrange for them to be pressed immediately upon receipt. | ||
