1297 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Wym. {G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} 9/MH. {M. Huckerby} The Burgess Products Co. Ltd., Barwell, Leicester. 8th. November 1937. For the attention of E.Cotton, Esq. Dear Sirs, I am sorry to be so long in replying to your letter of the 16th. Oct., but I have been away for a short time. With regard to the material ordered per Roy {Sir Henry Royce} /CGS.14/JM {Mr Morley} , this was apparently required by our experimental dept. to replace some previous perforations sheet which had been made into tubes and unfortunately blown to pieces in an experimental silencer. This blowing away of perforated tubing is quite common with us, and we are now trying the process of nickel plating the tubes before putting them in a silencer. As you probably know we are always a long time in making any progress with a new idea of any kind, because we have to be so fool-proof with anything we put on a car, and this necessitates extensive testing and time. By the way, what has happened to the Phantom III air silencer you were going to make for us, and one of which I left with you as a sample ? Trusting to hear from you in due course, Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
