CONFERENCE ON BRAKE SYSTEMS.

Works. 14.2.40.

Present. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} MHR.{M. H. Rigby} FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}

The Conference was held as a result of various brakes sticking on following weather conditions of deep snow and slush.

See report ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}5/ML.16.2.40.

General development was also discussed. The following decisions were made:-

(1) All pins throughout the brake system to have 0.015 - 0.005 diametral clearance in levers; Existing fit in jaws to be retained; Sideways clearance of all levers in jaws to be 0.025 ± 0.005. Split pins to be reduced to 0.093 throughout.

The above modifications to be carried out on all existing and all new chassis.

Pins to be tried with both chromium and dull nickel plating 0.0005 thick.

Chromium plated pins to be fitted to 11.B.V. and 9.B.V. dull nickel pins to all other chassis.
