-2- RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}2/MR.8.12.38. The problem remaining is whether the new design of frame front end will be as stiff as the old frame with side plates. By/Mr. Bower is making an estimate of this and we will measure the stiffness when the new frames come in. An interesting point shown up by these tests is the relative importance of bending and torsional stiffness of individual members, to the torsional stiffness of the frame as a whole. Mr. Bower has indicated the way in which these factors influence the complete frame and we are making further tests to determine the effect of welding and how it is best applied.
