W/P. To Sr. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 1113 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}7/AP. 30.7.37 c. Sr/VA. Re. P.III. Over-oiling on the Continent. I have had a word with Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re the modification of valve tappets for Ph.III. on the Continent. They are of the same opinion as myself, that without the cars are giving trouble through oil going down the valve stems and causing over-oiling, no modification is necessary, and that until you had run into trouble with any of these cars over-oiling it is not necessary to change the valve guides.
