contd:- -2- I want you to realise that I did not wish to interfere with the arrangements which had already been made prior to my coming on the Job. Engine rattles. I do not think that the engine when 6-Goshawk-11 left here was bad for rattles. On the contrary considering its performance as regards power, the engine appeared to be particularly free as regards vibration, and rattles so much so that the ratt in the drive appeared to be very objectionable and I thought this appeared to be so bad on this car. You did not say whether you are able to affect the engine rattles by slacking off the slipper drive, as a matter of fact we have rather taken 6-Goshawk-11 as a model in this respect and if you feel this is too tight, we must arrange a standard a stage slacker. Spring shackles. I am pleased to hear your report of this point which is a point I feel certain is one of the most serious problems in connection with Goshawk-11 cars and think it would be a good thing to fix on to 5-Goshawk-11 when back here for examination some definite scheme which we feel will reduce this trouble. We have gone so far with the covers and I think we can with close co-operation with the cover makers obtain what we require especially if the design of the shackles etc. is re-considered so as to blend itself to a good scheme of covers. I have also seen BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} with reference to your suggestion of making up some steel spring bushes as well as hardened pins. Shock absorbers. We will push ahead with the present shock absorbers as suggested by you. We note that you and Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} will be returning to the works with 5-Goshawk-11. If you have any special desires for parts to be fitted on 5-Goshawk-11 over and above those I have already mentioned, please let me know. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
