(2) A further examination of the drawings suggests that the little end as shown would not last even for a trial. Ricardo had to depart from the orthodox, and fit a spherical little end, which we saw, and seemed quite successful. Should the piston get too hot and oxidise the oil in the rings we should have to direct water cool the liner below the intake, or perhaps oil cool the piston, as Ricardo found necessary. The presence of so much air may cause gumming. With the side injection we should probably need swirl by intake ports, but this would follow later. We are all expecting a more practical and kinder control of combustion with the bulb. Except for this effect I do not like so completely enclosed combustion chamber, but I hope I am wrong.
