Attention: Mr. C. S. Steadman
Gentlemen:
Replying to your letter of July 8 regarding Thermostat part 3108572, we wish to advise that our quotation of 32¢ each was based on a production item.
We can furnish Thermostats to the design of D-3108572 except with start to open of 170-176°; however, we find it necessary to slightly increase our price and for a Thermostat to this specification our price would be 34¢ each in lots of 1000 or more boxed for export, f.o.b. Lockport, New York.
Our unit is a balanced Thermostat and the Buick Motor Company uses a by-pass in connection with same. If possible, we would suggest that you look over the installation on a Buick automobile. The by-pass valve is controlled by a 5-pound spring and both the by-pass valve and Thermostat valve are in the closed position when the motor is started. As pressure builds up the by-pass valve is slowly opened until the Thermostat valve opens at which time the by-pass valve slowly closes. Arrangements have been made for a permanent leakage around the by-pass valve which is equal to the leakage through a 7/16 diameter hole.
We are arranging to ship you three Thermostats to drawing D-3108572 except that the start to open will be 170-176°.
Yours very truly
